I have long adored the historic Kenwood neighborhood, for it’s brick streets, adorable bungalows and of course being a few minutes walk to my favorite hangout, The Dog Bar. Now there’s even more reason to love Kenwood – the new Kenwood Organic Produce.
Historic Kenwood residents Marcile Powers and Keevy McAlavy have opened an organic produce stand and zero-waste store and their ribbon cutting ceremony is today at 5pm! This wife-and-husband duo aim to eliminate the waste and only sell items in 100% reusable or compostable containers.
“The oceans are full of plastic, our recycling centers can’t recycle the a quarter of we send them, and now China doesn’t want our recyclables anymore. The solution isn’t recycling, it’s reusing.”
By helping to celebrate their grand opening, if you mention you saw the ad on their website, you can get $5 off your first purchase of $30 or more. You can even shop online and pick up your items in person.
Powers and McAlavy work with half a dozen farmers and growers in Pinellas, Hillsborough and Manatee counties to bring you the most local fruits and veggies possible. None of their growers use harmful pesticides or GMO plants. In addition to their local growers they also utiltize an organic wholesale distributor from Sarasota who supplies them with certified organic produce for items that are out of season or can’t be grown locally (like apples).
