As my hubby and I were walking our dog through our new neighborhood one recent evening, I was commenting on how I loved the carriage style garage doors. Granted, nothing is wrong with our garage door that it needs replacing any time soon, but I just loved the look of these doors so I knew it would be awhile before I’d have reason to get this look. Then, while perusing Facebook – I spotted a blog post from Home Sweet Heavenly Home in my newsfeed about how one might update their garage door to look like the carriage style in under 15 minutes – and get this, for under $10. Yes, really. I had to check it out. Here’s what you do:
Step 1: Get thee to Home Depot. Buy this kit for $6.99.
Step 2: Place and measure where you want to situate the brackets, making sure they line up on both sides and are level.
Step 3: Drill the screws in the brackets in the designated holes.
Step 4: Figure out where you want your handles situated. There are a few different options, whether you want them closer together or farther apart. Make sure they are level (if you don’t own a level, there’s an app for that!), then mark where you need to pre-drill the holes.
Step 5: Pre-drill where you marked the holes, put on the handles, then insert the bolts.

How come home owners do not know how unappealing these upgrades are? The stone work is horrible along with the garage door and windows. We need to educate homeowners on aesthetics.

I think they look nice! To each his own! 🙂

I’m not sure what you mean about the stone work and windows but I totally agree about the garage door. If anything, it just draws attention to what it is and what it’s not. Not that there’s anything wrong with the garage door but screwing fake handles and hinges to it is just tacky.

Goodness. People are funny. I think the house is beautiful. We are going to do this to our garage door too!
