Pinellas County New Student Registration
August 24, 2015 is the first day back to school for Pinellas County Schools. If you are just moving into the area you’ll need to register your child. The district’s policy is to assign any incoming student who is entering kindergarten, sixth or ninth grade to a zoned school. This means the student will go to the school designated to the area where his or her home is located. For all other grade levels, the district assigns new students to their zoned school on a space available basis. Click here to find out which school is zoned for your new home as well as everything you will need to do to complete the registration process. The district’s Student Assignment office is open to answer questions Monday-Thursday from 7:30am-5:30pm. The office can be reached at (727) 588-6210.

Back to School Nights
Back to School Night is a great opportunity for parents to gain a valuable understanding of a child’s day at school. It’s important to spend some time getting to know your child’s new teacher and understanding what school is like from your child’s perspective. Here are a few tips to making the most of Back to School Night.
- Establish Communication Pathways- We live in a digital age. Does your child’s teacher prefer to be contacted by phone, email, or texts? How should your child contact his or her teacher and is that different from the way you should contact them?
- Be Tech Savvy- What kind of social media will be used in the classroom? What are the teacher’s favorite websites? What apps should you and your child have to help with homework? How can you help your child get the most out of online and at home learning tools?
- Are E-Readers or iPads necessary? Would your child benefit from having an e-reader? If you purchase one will they be able to use it in class? What does the teacher recommend?
- How will you see your students grade and how can you monitor it throughout the semester?
