Watch your back… this time of year you don’t know who might be behind you! If you’re a thrill (and chill) seeker there are lots of options ready to lift the hairs on your neck this October. Halloween is just a few weeks away but you don’t have to wait. Many of the Bay area’s haunted houses are already ready to hear you scream.
You’ll need a few weekends to hit all of the attractions. We’ve listed as many as possible below but if we forgot one please don’t be shy and let us know!
1.) Hellview Cemetery: Located at 510 49th Ave N in St Pete, Hellview Cemetery has been haunting even the most brave guests since 1996. There’s a whole story behind the cemetery and legend has it that it existed long before the Seminole Indians ever came to the area we now refer to as St. Pete. You’re invited to visit the Cemetery for free from 7-10pm on October 23-25 and October 30-31st.
2.) Murder House: This one is located at 9048 Hickory Circle in Tampa. It’s open Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights in October from dark until 11:00 pm. There is a suggested $5.00 donation. Guests are required to be 18 years or older unless they are accompanied by an adult. The Murder House is sure to give you a good scare. The website even suggests you wear shoes you can run in.
3.) Chamber of Terror: With a decade of screams under its belt, Chamber of Terror is anything but new to the haunted house game. Located at 4535 S. Dale Mabry Hwy, the Chamber is open every weekend in October. Tickets are $10 per person or $15 for a “speed pass”. This year’s theme is Last Laugh Toy Company where you’ll find abandoned toys including creepy dolls and clowns that just might be psychotic.
4.) Scream-A-Geddon: This year there’s a newcomer to the haunted house attractions. Scream-a-geddon is located in Dade City and offers six haunted houses for one price. Located at 27839 Saint Joe Road in Dade City, Scream-a-geddon is open Wednesday through Sundays in October. Tickets are around $30 if you buy them on the website. They’re $5 more at the door. This year’s haunted house themes include: Cursed Hayride, Dead Woods, Pandemic, Bedlam 3D and Monster Midway.
5.) Howl-O-Scream: Another place to get all of the fright you can handle in one place is Bush Gardens. The producer of The Blair Witch Project helped create “Scarlett’s Revenge”, the newest haunted house at Bush Gardens. It’s one of seven that are waiting to scare you after dark at the park. The action starts at 6pm every weekend through November 1st.
We do have to mention on St. Pete attraction that won’t be setting up shop this year. Cody Meachem is well known in the area for transforming his own parent’s house near Kiwanis Park into a haunted mansion called The Radley House. More than 8 years ago, Meachem began hiring his acting friends and designing a thrilling haunted house. Every year he’d let the neighbors know he was at it again and the streets around his house would be lined with cars. Many of the neighbors volunteered to help with the traffic and take donations. However, this year Meachem is hard at work on a new project and his parent’s yard won’t be the site of dozens of ghosts and goblins. While his efforts will be missed, there are plenty of other places to get the thrill you seek.
